On May 10 2010 a meeting of the ITU (International Telecommunication Union) took place in Geneva.

Document 5B2b-1-E is the result of the discussion about the WRC-12 Agenda item 1.3 of Chapter 1: "maritime and aeronautical issues" with the intent to achieve information about the frequency spectrum requirements for the operation of UAS (Unmanned Aeronautical Systems).

A major aim of the meeting was to achieve a common position in the CPM report, main outcomes were:

Satellite component:

  • A major issue was the selection of appropriate services for satellite UA spectrum

Terrestrial component

  • Use of existing AM(R)S allocation in the band 960-1164 MHz. However, entire required 34 MHz of terrestrial spectrum UAS operations cannot be fulfilled due to  existing and planned systems like DME, TACAN, SSR
